Disappointing digital display,
I’ve been wearing Timexes of some model or other for more than 30 years and have always been a fan of the “combo” approach of an analog dial with a digital display strip at the bottom – best of both worlds generally.
But I am very disappointed in this one due to the very poor visibility of the digital display. The LCD background is dark and hard to tell apart from the digital numbers themselves. In addition to that, the digital part is sunken below the surface of the watch face, resulting in a shadow being cast from the cutout within which the digital part sits. And the Indiglo function does not noticeably light up the background of the digital display, so that doesn’t help either. I find it basically unreadable most of the time.
It seems Timex has two different digital strip components – this one, which is horrible and should never even have made it out of product testing, and the one used on watches like the T41361 (which I also own) that is dramatically better – clear, high-contrast, less shadowing, and illuminated by Indiglo. The T41361 display is great, I love it. Why they even bother manufacturing the lousy one in the T49828 that I’m reviewing is beyond me – it makes them look incompetent and tarnishes the brand, IMHO.
So if you’re shopping for a combo Timex, look very carefully at the pictures of the digital strip and make sure you get the one like the T41361 has, not the crappy one like the T49828.

|Pretty Decent Watch for the Money,
I’ve only had the watch for a month. Purchased it for a nursing program (clinicals)in which I needed a watch that is water resistant, has a seconds hand, and pretty easy to read. This fit the bill at a relatively low price. I’ve always used digital watches so I get the added benefit of a digital display aside from the analog face. I haven’t had it for that long, so I can’t attest to the durability. We’ll see.. but so far so good. Indiglo is a plus for viewing the time in dark settings. Here’s a tip, if you hold the indiglo button down for a couple of seconds till it beeps, it changes the duration of how long the indiglo light stays on. This was a pleasant surprise because I was initially disappointed that the light stayed on for only a second by default. Now it’s set for more like 3 to 4 seconds.

|Nice rugged dependable watch,
I am rough on watches. I usually break them before the battery dies. This watch has lasted longer than any other I have owned. I am on my 3rd battery. The band is quite worn but it still works great. The crystal is very strong and resists scratches. I travel a lot. It has 2 time zones for the digital display. You can display either time zone or date as default. Also alarms for each zone. Time is very accurate. If it ever breaks, I would buy the exact same one again.
